From initial concept and design through to the complete manufacturing process Kocurek aims to keep control on even the smallest of components. Through the continual growth, development and investment in the excavator side of the business the company has built an enviable collection of precision machining tools and equipment creating a true manufacturing facility.

Plasma Cutting Capabilities

Kocurek Engineering has recently invested in a new state of the art cutting machine, this replaces the existing Messer cutting machine which has served the company well for over 30 years!

The new Kerf RUM 3500GP© cutting machine boasts a 30m x 3m cutting bed and dual gantry “UltraSharp” Plasma and Oxy fuel cutting heads respectively, facilitating two 14m x 3m sheets.

The cutting capacity of the machine ranges from 1mm up to 200mm. Superior high speed cutting and final finish is thanks to the machine being equipped with the latest Burny® 10 lcd CNC control and a Lincoln Electric Spirit II 275 amp high definition plasma cutting system which includes an Inova automatic torch height control and “UltraSharp” cutting technology. The CNC control is programmed using the latest Lantek® expert II nesting software to minimise wastage and optimise sheet usage.

Induction Hardening

Another recent investment by the company was the design and installation of a state-of-the-art CNC Induction Hardening machine. With a minimal amount of existing companies offering this service within the UK the investment has proved incredibly beneficial to increasing production by reducing manufacturing process times.

The process of induction hardening involves heating a direct hardening metal using Eddy Currents generated by a copper induction coil that encircles the pin and through which alternating current is passed, this heating is followed closely by rapid quenching using a polymer/ water mix, fed through a multi hole quenching coil that is positioned just below the induction coil.

The whole process is controlled via a programmable wall mounted panel which ensures a reliable and consistent hardness level, and most importantly a high-quality product.

Following extensive research and testing into the design of pins used in the varied equipment product range, Kocurek aims for a hardness of 58 – 60 HRC and to a depth of 3 – 5mm. On completion of the hardening process each pin is tested for hardness, each pin has its own identifier against which the hardness is recorded.

Induction hardening of the pins not only Improves wear and resistance to cracking by fatigue but also results in minimal distortion and produces a high surface hardness that ensures that the pins are capable of handling extremely high loads.

CNC Machine Shop

Kocurek run a fully dedicated machine shop where skilled operatives keep up a constant stream of production of parts. The shop is home to 5 Haas CNC machines as well as traditional manual lathes alongside a dedicated pin grinding machine.

Collectively the machines allow for a broad range of parts to be made and machined as per specific design requirements.
